Position Summary:

Mallacoota District Health & Support Service (MDHSS) is seeking a qualified and experienced Environmental Officer to join our organisation. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in supporting our compliance initiatives across all MDHSS facilities and community service environments.

This role involves conducting audits, implementing sustainable practices, ensuring compliance, and guiding the integration of environmentally responsible systems throughout our service delivery operations.

Key Responsibilities:

• • • Conduct on-site environmental audits and risk assessments at MDHSS facilities and within community service areas, evaluating critical factors such as waste management, water usage, energy efficiency, and ecological impacts.
    • Develop and execute comprehensive environmental management systems and sustainability programs tailored to improving environmental outcomes for vulnerable clients.
    • Ensure organisational compliance with all relevant environmental legislation, sustainability frameworks, and local regulations, including preparing reports and corrective action plans.
    • Prepare and present technical environmental reports, compliance documentation, and performance improvement plans to senior leadership and external stakeholders.
    • Provide independent and strategic environmental advice to management and operational staff, supporting informed decision-making in sustainable operations.

• • • Monitor and evaluate the performance and outcomes of environmental programs by conducting site inspections, data collection, and environmental impact assessments.
    • Design and deliver environmental training sessions and awareness workshops for staff, fostering a workplace culture rooted in sustainable practice and ecological responsibility.
    • Advise on embedding sustainability into long-term organisational planning and daily service delivery, ensuring alignment with MDHSS’s mission of improving community wellbeing.

     Selection Criteria:

                          Essential:

• • • Bachelor’s degree or higher qualification in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Sustainability, or related discipline.
    • Minimum 2 years of demonstrated experience in a similar consulting or advisory role.
    • Strong knowledge of Australian environmental legislation and sustainability frameworks.
    • Proven ability to conduct site inspections and develop environmental reports.
    • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

                          Desirable:

• • • Previous experience working with health or community service organisations.
    • Experience in delivering environmental training sessions.
